What is Urgent Care?

At PriorityPet Urgent Care, we’re here for those unexpected pet emergencies that don’t require a trip to the ER but can’t wait for a regular vet appointment. Whether it’s after hours or your vet’s office is closed, our caring team is ready to step in and provide quick, urgent pet care in Clayton for your pet’s sudden health issues.

We work closely with your regular vet, ensuring they receive all necessary details to continue your pet’s care seamlessly.

When to Use Urgent Care

Urgent care is perfect for situations where your pet needs attention fast. Acting quickly can ease your pet’s discomfort and help prevent bigger problems down the line.

We Treat a Wide Range of Urgent Health Issues, Including:

  • Vomiting & Diarrhea – If your pet has been sick for more than 24 hours, urgent care can help address dehydration and underlying causes.
  • Not Eating or Drinking – Sudden loss of appetite or refusal to drink can signal an underlying issue that needs attention.
  • Dehydration – Pets can become dehydrated quickly, especially after vomiting, diarrhea, or excessive heat exposure.
  • Toxin Ingestion – If your pet has eaten something harmful, immediate care is critical. Common toxins include chocolate, medications, and household chemicals.
  • Skin Allergies & Itching – Persistent scratching, redness, or swelling could indicate an allergic reaction, infection, or irritation.
  • Upper Respiratory Infections – Sneezing, coughing, nasal discharge, or trouble breathing can be signs of a respiratory infection that needs prompt care.
  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) – If your pet is straining to urinate, going more frequently, or showing signs of discomfort, a UTI could be the cause.
  • Ear Infections – Head shaking, scratching at the ears, redness, or an unpleasant odor may indicate an infection that needs treatment.
  • Mild Lameness – Limping or reluctance to bear weight on a leg may be caused by minor sprains, strains, or injuries that benefit from prompt evaluation.
  • Toe Nail Injuries – Broken or bleeding nails can be painful and prone to infection, making urgent care a good option for quick relief.

When to Seek Emergency Care

While urgent care is ideal for many conditions, major illnesses or severe trauma should be treated at a full-service emergency hospital.

If your pet has been hit by a car, is experiencing difficulty breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, seizures, or other life-threatening symptoms, we recommend going directly to an ER hospital for advanced care.
